Hanuman Gatha – Praise Lord Hanuman

Hanuman is a Hindu god, who is known for his might, strength, devotion, dedication and loyalty to Shri Ram. Those who worship him are free of any kind of evil effects, negative energies, frights, phobias, Shani dosha and Mangal dosha. He is an avatar of Lord Shiva and is also known as the monkey god.

Hanuman Gatha :

Hanuman is the son of Marut and Anjali. He played an important role in helping Shri Rama to achieve victory against Ravana. Hanuman Gatha is a phrase or a poetic rhythmic verse which is sung in the praise of Lord Hanuman. This divine Hanuman Gatha can be in Sanskrit and Prakrit languages, which are the ancient languages of India.

The word gatha has its roots in gai, which basically means to sing, extol, speak or recite in Prakrit or Sanskrit. The sacred Hanuman Gatha is meant for the purpose of religious devotion towards Hanuman. It mostly contains episodes and anecdotes from the ancient epic Ramayana. It also consists of verses from Hanuman Chalisa. Hanuman Chalisa contains 40 verses in the Awadhi language which was written by Tulsidas.

Hanuman Gatha is the most popular way of worshipping and praising Lord Hanuman in Hindu temples and gatherings. It can be sung in a group or by a single person. It can either be with music or without music. This gatha can be sung in morning or evening. Hanuman Gatha is very popular in Hindu society of India. It has become a cultural and social event for many Hindu devotees in India. It is a ritual in which people from different walks of life come together and worship Lord Hanuman. It has helped in preaching people the message of universal brotherhood and has made them to forget their caste and class divisions.
